Jose Mourinho knows that a lot of work must be done at Manchester United this summer.
In what was expected to be a close title race, the Red Devils finished 19 points behind rivals Manchester City.
And so Mourinho is ready to do what he’s done already in his previous two summers at Old Trafford - spend heavily.
Man United are closing in on deals to sign Fred and Diogo Dalot, solving needs at defensive midfield and at right-back.
Yet given how Mourinho’s signings have fared already - Paul Pogba hasn’t played well on a consistent basis, while Alexis Sanchez failed to make an instant impact following his arrival from Arsenal in January - what’s to say things will be any different with Fred and Dalot?
Much was made about the changes Pep Guardiola made at the Etihad Stadium following his arrival in 2016, from blocking the wifi to banning pizza.
Now, it appearances that Mourinho is ready to take similar, outside-the-box steps in his pursuit of glory.
WHAT UNITED HAVE BANNED
According to the Mirror, the club have banned drones from their Carrington training base.
It’s all in a bid to prevent spies from watching first-team training sessions next season.
Signs were seen outside the training complex, with the words: “Use of drones and UAVs over this site is strictly prohibited.
“Anyone found operating a drone over this location will be reported for prosecution and subject to civil action.”
It may seem like a drastic measure but when the biggest challengers to the Premier League title are also your neighbours, it does make sense.
Mourinho is fully aware that stopping Man City is going to be an extremely difficult task.
Back in April, he admitted it may be “impossible” to win the 2018-19 title if Guardiola’s side are still as dominant.
“It was impossible, because City were really good and consistent and will reach a number of points that makes it impossible,” the Portuguese coach said.
"Give no chance to the opponent, that's what Manchester City did.
"If they do the same number of points [in 2018-19], if they get into the 90-something points, it will be almost impossible again.”
