Cristiano Ronaldo's legacy just grows stronger by the day.
Just weeks after winning his fifth Ballon d'Or award, the Portuguese superstar led Real Madrid to consecutive Club World Cups.
Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid are the first side in football history to win successive Club World Cups and thanks winning three of the last four Champions League titles, it's been a few glorious years for Los Blancos.
Ronaldo bagged a free-kick to give Real Madrid a 1-0 win over Gremio in the final and the former Manchester United man will surely be relieved to show his 'haters' he can still score a set-piece or two.
Real will now turn their attention to their pending Clasico with Barcelona next Saturday, especially as they already find themselves eight points behind their fierce rivals in the La Liga table.
Real must win if they have any real hopes of retaining their La Liga title and it's sure to be a special atmosphere at the Bernabeu.
But, it seems as though Ronaldo, 32, wants something a little extra from their rivals.
Speaking after Madrid's victory over Gremio, Ronaldo said: “It would be nice and I would like Barcelona to make for us the guard of honour.”
Of course, back in 2008, Real Madrid received a Barcelona guard of honour after winning the La Liga title. The likes of Ronaldinho and co. were then thrashed 4-1 by an elated Real.
On El Clasico itself, Ronaldo added: “I hope we can beat Barça so that the League is alive, we have to enjoy every moment because we do not know what can happen tomorrow, we are gaining confidence and we are going to improve and finish very well.”
Ronaldo now has 16 goals in 21 games this season and when you consider that many fans are suggesting he's having one of his worst seasons in years, that shows you just how high his standards are. Real have won the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup already this season, are they about to add a scalp over Barcelona to that list?
